Description:
I love plates. I use them on my dining room table to layer up other items for display. Sometimes I layer plates and bowls and plates with more plates and then a bowl. Plates are a whole thing for me. Love me some plates.

These plates started out life as large sheets of oak in a cabinet shop. The pieces I got were either unsuitable for cabinets or they were cut offs or something else made them unwanted bits of wood that I gladly rescued.

I love oak. It reacts with the ebonizing solution quickly and brillinantly. Some oak immediately turns jet black, while other pieces only turn grey, or they become darker as the wood dries. It's a fun process.

After the wood goes thru the whole ebonizing process (I dreamed of being a mad scientist as a child), I seal it with Danish Oil, fill the open pores with liming wax and then buff that wax off until my arms are weary. The final step is a coat of clear wax to seal the whole thing. Again, I buff until my arms are weary.

These plates make a statement so they are definitely a commitment. If you like your decor subtle and understated, walk away. These will upset your apple cart. There are other plates in the shop you'll enjoy more. If you're looking for something striking that will pop. Here you go. POP!
